Mashing Main Events: WPT L.A. Poker Classic

by

Daniel O'Brien

This Hand-Pack takes you through 15 critical hands played in the 2012 WPT L.A. Poker Classic, with in-depth analysis into key decisions. We go through three days of the event, from early to middle tournament stages, experiencing increasing blind levels, pre- and post-ante play, and deep- and short-stack decision making. We play a number of hands from day two, sitting at the live featured table with some of the game’s top pros including Jason Mercier, Erick Lindgren, and Matt Berkey. You'll get to experience the situations first-hand, and not only learn all the right moves, but learn why every move is made so you can incorporate high-level poker thinking into all aspects of your game. A must have if you want to start thinking like the pros!

The Playbook: Premium Hands

by

Matt Berkey

The Playbook: Trouble Hands

by

Matt Berkey

This second Hand-Pack of The Playbook series includes 26 hands that demonstrate just how much value we gain by expanding our range beyond premium holdings. Here our focus shifts from premium holdings to the broader part of our range, or what we previously thought of as ‘trouble hands’. This range, consisting of broadway holdings (KQ-KT, QJ, JT, etc.), medium pairs (77-JJ), unsuited AT-AQ, as well as suited A-x, was previously deemed unplayable due to the tight nature of the weak players in most games. However, as game dynamics change and drift further toward the loose-aggressive side, so too does our range of profitable hands.

Many players let the fear of post-flop play with a marginal holding prevent them from gaining full value. Ironically, because of their apprehension they too often end up playing a style in which all they can do is win the minimum with the best of it or lose the maximum with the worst of it. A common example being when a tight player opens pre-flop for an abnormally large raise, and upon stealing the blinds he tables JJ, thrilled to have avoided a confrontation. The Playbook shines a spotlight on common fears and mistakes made by novice players at all levels.
